Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
